I feel that black women in the current climate, need a place to put their thoughts and feelings down. That act can give greater clarity and simply a sense of having shared what is in our hearts and minds.
Journaling can be a way of lightening our sense of burden and help us understand our selves and our lives as black women.
My first Journal for Black Women has a theme each month! Along with a few broad prompts to integrate the energy into your life.
Some of the monthly themes in the journal are more obvious like:
- Self-love
- Rest
But others are more unexpected themes like “surrender” and “play.”
Then each week there is an affirmation to repeat and dive deep into the meaning that entire week.
There is daily space to either do gratitude or to write what we are proud of or appreciate about ourselves.
I encourage women to alternate to keep it fresh…as often we can get stuck writing gratitude every day, can feel repetitive.
So the option to note somethings we are proud of like “taking my grandma to the doctor…” or “going for a walk in nature today,” helps to keep the process fresh for us.

Gratitude Practice Feeling Repetitive:
That is a common complaint and why we often drop it. But the solution is in fact to go deeper. We cannot really exhaust things to be grateful for…
So some tips are to look for even smaller overlooked things in our daily lives; things like our grandchild learning a new word. Or that they are healthy and able to read a new higher level book.
So it’s about NOTICING MORE, here are some examples of things that that may get overlooked in our hurry to get through the day:
- The light on leaves outside the window, is it different in spring to fall light?
- Sound of squirrels rushing around a tree
- the music of someone practicing an instrument as you walk by…
- The fact that you are able to walk…when so any can’t
